Frequent Questions

The mission of the Legal Services Section is to ensure the integrity and quality of the Yolo County Sheriff’s Department by thoroughly investigating all allegations of misconduct by any member of this Department. Legal Services also works directly with the County Counsel's Office to provide investigations and recommendations on all claims filed against the County of Yolo involving the Sheriff’s Department and all Public Records Act document requests.  Legal Services must also maintain the document files that relate to Internal Affairs Investigations, confidential personnel files, licensing, permits, lawsuits, property claims, use of force, and departmental vehicle accidents.

If you wish to file a complaint of misconduct against an employee of the Yolo County Sheriff's Department, you can do so in one of the following ways.

  • Telephone the Legal Services Captain at (530) 668-5256. Normal business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

  • File a complaint in person at the Sheriff's Department Administration Building, located at 2500 East Gibson Road, in Woodland CA (during normal business hours).

  • If the complaint is after hours and is of an urgent manner, please call the Sheriff's Department dispatch at (530) 666-8282 and ask to speak to the on-duty patrol supervisor regarding a complaint.
