The
Investigations Section consists of Detectives Mike Glaser, Robin
Gonzalez, Ray Jimenez, Rafael Vicente, Hernan Oviedo, Gary Hallenbeck,
and Sergeant Dale Johnson.
One detective is assigned full time to the Yolo Narcotics Enforcement
Team (YONET), working complex narcotics investigations throughout the
county. One detective is assigned full time to the Yolo County Gang Task
Force, working complex gang investigations throughout the county.
Detectives
are selected through an internal testing process and only those with
extensive experience and a track record of leadership and service to the
community are selected. After selection the deputy receives
hundreds of hours of formal training in criminal investigations,
interview and interrogation, crime scene investigation, sexual assault
and homicide investigations. Detectives are also on-call 24 hours
a day in order to respond to major crimes.
The
Section also has Crime Scene Investigators Del Stewart, Stephanie Gill,
and Property Technician Krista Shank. Crime Scene Investigators
conduct crime scene investigations through the use of photography,
evidence collection and fingerprint/DNA processing. Our Crime
Scene Investigators also maintain and manage the evidence and property
system. They receive hundreds of hours of formal training in
fingerprint processing, crime scene reconstruction, photography,
evidence collection and property management.
The
majority of investigations are initiated when a patrol deputy is called
to the scene of a crime. The patrol deputy completes a crime
report and conducts an investigation. If the deputy is unable to
resolve the case, it is forwarded to the Investigations Section.
The Detective Sergeant reviews the report and determines if any
solvability factors exist, i.e., are suspects known, is there as suspect
description?, are witnesses available?, or is there any physical
evidence that could lead to the apprehension?, etc. Cases that do not
contain significant solvability factors are filed until new information
becomes available that would lead to suspect identification. Cases
are then assigned to investigators based on training, expertise, and
caseload. When an investigator receives a case assignment, that
investigator is responsible for that investigation until such time that
a suspect is apprehended or all leads are exhausted. At the
conclusion of an investigation, the investigator will submit the case to
the Investigations Sergeant for review and approval. The case is
then either forwarded to the District Attorney for a complaint, or
suspended until further leads are developed.
This
Section investigates all types of felony crimes including homicides,
rapes, child/elder abuse, burglaries, assaults, arsons, and identity
thefts. If you suspect suspicious or criminal activity or if you have
information on a current investigation, we strongly encourage you to
call our tip line. With your help we can keep our community a safe
place to live and work.
