Patrol
deputies work hard to fulfill the Department's mission to provide the
best possible service to the public, using proactive patrol procedures
and problem-oriented policing techniques whenever possible.
In
addition to answering calls for assistance while on patrol, deputies can
also provide presence and support by representing the Department at
community events and meetings, and participating in special programs
such as "Cops in Schools".
This
past year the department has installed WatchGuard
DV-1 in-car video systems in the patrol cars. The cameras are
used to provide additional evidence of criminal activity, to provide
training opportunities for Sheriff’s personnel and to maintain public
trust and citizen confidence in police procedures. The cameras record
both video and audio for traffic stops, vehicle pursuits, crimes in
progress and any situation or event that the Deputy through training and
experience believes should be audibly and visually recorded. The in-car
camera is a valuable tool for law enforcement officers because it
documents their honesty, integrity, and professionalism.
The
department is also in the process of purchasing Mobile Data Computers (MDC)
to be installed in the patrol cars. This technology will allow the
Deputies to receive calls for service without tying up dispatch airtime,
remotely access the department’s report writing system, check subjects
for warrants and driver’s license status and perform other various
computer tasks that would normally require the Deputy to drive back to
the office. The Deputy will be able to stay in their assigned zone and
respond to calls quickly.
By
using the latest technologies and presenting a positive proactive image
in the community, Yolo County Deputies truly provide "Service
Without Limitations.”
