Sheriff’s Jurisdiction for Issue of CCW Licenses

The Sheriff may issue a license to any person residing within Yolo County. However, persons residing in a municipality are strongly encouraged to first contact their local Police Chief and apply for a license with that agency.

Overview of requirements to obtain a new or renew a CCW Permit in YOLO County:

New CCW Permits:

Valid California driver’s license, or state-issued ID, which has your current address in Yolo County.
Provide “Proof of residency” Two (2) Consecutive statements showing your current address in Yolo County (i.e. Utility bill Lease/Rental Agreement, Telephone Bill, Cable/Satellite, Home Internet (TAX Statements, Mortgage Account Statements will NOT be accepted).
Firearms listed on your Concealed Carry Weapon license is registered to you or your spouse/registered domestic partner in the State of California. The firearm cannot be registered to any other family member. The firearm also cannot be registered as a “single shot.”
Three (3) signed letters of character reference.
8 hours not to exceed 16 hours of Firearms Training

Renewals (every 2 years):

Valid California driver’s license, or state-issued ID, which has your current address in Yolo County.
Firearms listed on your Concealed Carry Weapon license must be registered to you or your spouse/registered domestic partner in the State of California. The firearm cannot be registered to any other family member. The firearm also cannot be registered as a “single shot.”
4-hour firearms training course.
White DOJ Laminated Permit (BOF 4501) & Yellow Department Issued CCW Card MUST be turned in at the time of issuance.

Range Training and qualification courses must be completed by an instructor certified by one of the following:

The California Department of Justice
The California Consumer Affairs, Bureau of Security and Investigative Services
The Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training

*Completed Training Certificate MUST state the Instructors Certification number for one of the above entities*

The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office will NO longer provide a list of qualified instructors.
